Bowel Dysfunction

Bowel Dysfunction

Bowel dysfunction is often an underlying cause of many other pelvic floor issues, including urinary leakage, pelvic pain, and sexual dysfunction. When the pelvic floor muscles aren't coordinating well with the rest of your body, especially during bowel movements, it can lead to increased tension, pressure, and compensation patterns elsewhere.

Constipation, straining, leakage, or rectal pressure may feel embarrassing to talk about, but they’re common signs of pelvic floor dysfunction, and highly treatable.

Common Diagnoses and Conditions We Treat:

  • Chronic Constipation

  • Fecal Incontinence

  • Incomplete Emptying

  • Pelvic Organ Prolapse

  • Rectal Pain or Heaviness

  • Dyssynergic Defecation (when the pelvic floor muscles don’t relax properly during a bowel movement)

  • Hemorrhoid-related Dysfunction and Anal Fissures (non-medical support)
